Lincoln MKZ — Not Bad for the Bucks

Even though sales are down, Lincoln executives expect total sales to be higher this year than they were last year. The reason is the MKS.

I don’t think so. The MKS will be priced in the $40K to $50k range. It’s the rare occasion that cars in that price range are volume sellers. However, the MKS will draw potential buyers to Lincoln show rooms. Once they see the $32,425 MKZ, Lincoln’s entry level sedan will indeed be its volume seller.
The Lincoln MKZ started life as the Lincoln Zephyr. Then the name was changed to MKZ. In a world that is brand driven, changing the name of a product can be disastrous. What got lost in the name change is that the MKZ is not a bad car.
The MKZ is almost as big as a full size sedan; it has a 263 horsepower V6 mated to a fuel efficient six-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive model I had handled pretty well. Satellite radio, perforated leather seats and heated and cooled seats standard.
Interior appointments were not bad. I think Lincoln is finally coming to understand that gaps are not a good when it comes to fit. Still, the MKZ could use some refinement which may come with each new model year.
